So I Can See

I love music. Anything, really. I can groove on some hip-hop, twang to some country, kick back to some easy listening. My favorite is good old Rock and Roll! When I became a Christian a few years ago, the music was what really grabbed me. The lyrics and the feeling that is in those tunes really brought a relationship with Christ into focus for me.


I used to be really afraid of people. I wouldn't even get out of my car to pay for gasoline if I could possibly use the pay at the pump option. It was hard for me to call the utilities to ask for an extension or anything like that! I had this "damn the Man" attitude.


I had been in a relationship where he had beat me down emotionally and physically for so long that I thought that everyone was out to get me. After all that's what the person that was supposed to love and protect me and my children told me. I wasn't allowed out much or to drive myself anywhere – unless it served his purposes. And I scarcely even had a job that we didn't share.


Consequently I hated people. They scared me. I held onto that even through counseling after the relationship ended, and when I became a Christian I learned that God loves everyone, so I should to. Hard thing to do. Just go down to your local Wal-Mart and you'll run into enough angry, all bent up people to ruin your day.


It wasn't until I was truly able to forgive my ex for what he had done to me that I began to see people the way that God does. When I was bitter and unforgiving I was concentrating on fault. As my bitterness faded and I was able to allow the Holy Spirit to heal those wounds that no amount of time could, I began to see even the most angry, foul mouthed, empty people as they began – soft, beautiful, sweet and full of life.


So here's a new song that came out that is really great and says it all. It's sort of hip-hop and I really like the way this guy gives rhythm to the words.

This a great prayer to start the day and no matter who you run into – if you have this attitude – you can have peace.

Lincoln Marathon Race Report

Another beautiful Spring day in Nebraska, another year running the Lincoln National Guard Marathon and Half Marathon! David and I rode our bikes to the start of the race, as we do each year.  Since they recently moved the start line, to accommodate more runners, we need to change where we rack our bikes! The weather on the Saturday before the race was terrible!  Our 11yo daughter, Alahnnah, ran the KFRX Mayor's Run and it was miserable.  It was about 35 degrees with 20mph winds and rain.  We had discouraged the girls from participating - but when a kid tells you "Mom, we signed up for it, we need to do it" - you have to do it. Miss A giving me "the look" Thankfully, Sunday was a little better.  The temps were hovering around 40 and there was no rain.  The wind had died down a bit, but it was still chilly!  I dressed in a t-shirt and a jacket when last year I ran in a tank top! Woohoo for Week Two + *sad face*

Week Two of training for the Legend 70 went great! Since Week One  was a little weak-sauce, I aimed for perfection for week two.  I stuck to my eating, relaxing and training plans to a "T". Monday - Took a 2.5 mile walk on the treadmill while watching The Walking Dead, stretch and foam rolled.  I did 30 minutes of yoga after work and let myself have some time to relax and decompress. Tuesday - Jumped out of bed for a 45 minute run and a 20 minute strength routine.  Still was struggling a little bit with tight chestedness from last week, but we got through it. Tuesday PM - went to the pool for a 45 minute swim.  My friend who just had bariatric surgery went with me and did her pool laps, too.  I am really proud of her! Wednesday - woke up a bit tired from heavy training the day before, but put my best effort into a 45 minute bike and 15 minute run.  If you do them one right after the other it's called a "brick." Transparency

I have a friend who has said more than once that she loves me for my transparency. I hold nothing back about myself. There are no secrets. In the appropriate setting, I am willing to tell you everything. If you really want to know. Prior to my life as of now, I had a life that you might not think was very pretty. I don't know how to say this, other than, I was a mess. There were times in my life that I just worked a job only so I could have money to use and drink. I didn't have money to pay rent for very long, so I would move in and move out. A lot. I put utilities in my son's name one time just to get them turned on. I stole checks from my Mom and forged her name. I stole food out of my neighbors refrigerator because she forgot to lock the door when she left. I broke in to my friends houses when I knew they weren't home. I sold things that were not mine for money to buy drugs. I was a pitiful excuse for a human being.
